The course introduces the student to the history and philosophy of nursing. The student is also equipped with the skills and techniques of provision of basic nursing care through the use of nursing process. It also highlights the role of local, national and international organizations, and regulatory bodies in health.
Learning Objectives and Outcome:
Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:
Demonstrate clinical skills in a safe and effective manner.
Safely calculate medication dosages.
Utilize nursing interventions to modify human responses to health and illness.
Apply critical thinking through the nursing process in providing care of selected adult residents in the long-term health care setting.
Use reflective thinking and writing as a strategy to develop clinical problem solving skills.
Use the nursing process to identify health problems of the resident.
